A charming Two Hundred (and something!) year old English Cottage!
Originally built as just two rooms with 2ft deep stone walls directly on the lime soil with no foundations, the cottage has been repeatedly extended & modernised over the years... and now in 2026 once again its been fully refurbished, extended and modernised for you to enjoy!

LOCAL WALKS START AT THE DOORSTEP!
Greenwell Cottage sits alongside “The burn” a conservation area, on a quiet single track road. The relaxing sounds of water flowing down the burn coupled with the singing of the birds will allow you to put aside your daily grind and enjoy being at peace with yourself and nature! Just slip on your boots and step out the front door, you can walk or hike to your hearts content to the nearby cawfields quarry and along the World famous Hadrian’s Wall! A sip at a local pub, or a night in - a cosy couch and comfy beds awaits your return!

We're absolutely delighted you've chosen to stay with us. From the moment we first viewed this lovely cottage, we knew it had potential, and over the past 18 months, we've poured our heart and soul into making it our happy place. A lick of paint was just the beginning - it's been a labour of love to get it just right.
We hope Greenwell Cottage feels like a home away from home for you, where you can relax, unwind, and create happy memories, surrounded by the warmth and love that we've poured into every detail.

We're animal lovers too, but unfortunately, pets are strictly not allowed in the cottage
QUIET TIME
Please be considerate of our elderly neighbours and keep noise down after 9pm
PLEASE RECYCLE
Let's look after the planet together! Recyclable items can be placed in the green bin

TEMPERATURE
For your comfort the Heating is fully automated and there is nothing more you need to do! A Boost function is available to boost the heating for one hour.
WIFI
Super high speed Starlink is available for your enjoyment. Please choose Starlink on your device, no password needed.
LAUNDRY
The cottage has a washing machine for your use. If you need to do a larger load or dry clothes, The Center of Britain Laundrette is nearby and the staff are very helpful and happy to assist.
RUBBISH
Please bag your rubbish and dispose of it in the grey bin, and put recyclables in the green bin. For excess rubbish, visit the Haltwhistle HWRC (NE49 0ET), open Friday-Monday, 8am-6pm
PARKING
You are welcome to park your car at the cottage. There is a dedicated gravel grid carpark to the left of the driveway. Please do not block the entrance at any time.
SECURITY
Haltwhistle has an extremely low crime rate however please remain vigilant and keep the cottage safe and secure at all times. CCTV is in operation in outdoor areas.
DIRECTIONS

SHOPS
Sainsbury's is a 10-minute stroll away. Westgate, with its shops, eateries, and pubs, is just a few minutes further. Plus, local supermarkets and Amazon deliver to the cottage.
Helpful Tips For Your Stay
Greenwell Cottage is located just outside the center of Haltwhistle, a small town in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall Country. Often nicknamed the “Centre of Britain” , due to its geographical location, the town is ideally placed for exploring the array of local heritage sites that Northumberland has to offer.

Surrounded by Dark Skies, our cottage is a haven for stargazers. In the winter months, the night sky comes alive with thousands of twinkling stars, and on lucky nights, the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) put on a breathtaking show.

From the cottage door, take a scenic circular walk through the beautiful wooded valley, spotting wildlife and industrial heritage along the way. Keep an eye out for resident red squirrels! Be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp for nighttime walks, as the road can get very dark.

Haltwhistle town centre and Sainsbury's are just ¾ mile away, a 2-minute drive or 15-minute walk. Free car parking is available on the main street, at Lanty's Lonnen car park, and the railway station, with electric vehicle charging points at the railway station and main street.

Enjoy private trout and salmon fishing on the South Tyne River, just a stroll through the hay meadows. The area is rich in history and scenery, with Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District National Park, and the scenic South Tyne Valley railway offering endless opportunities for exploration

Greenwell Cottage is very well placed for both private and public transport, making it easy to explore the local area. We're proud to be in a beautiful area with good public transport links. We encourage you to take advantage of these and leave your car behind whenever possible.
